"Lose
weight." Isn't that what all
the health experts tell you when you go searching for help on how to be
healthy? Lose weight, they all say. Maintain a healthy weight. We've heard it all before, and it just
doesn't work. Eat less, exercise
more. Well, that's easy for them to
say, isn't it.
Much easier said than done.
What
are you to do if you're living a healthy lifestyle, eating nutritious foods,
and even exercising, but still can't keep your bathroom scale on the number you
want? Or what do you do if you are
so fatigued and in so much pain all the time that you can't even think of
exercising?
Unfortunately,
when people look at us, they make a judgment, oftentimes based on how much we
weigh. People judge us to be lazy
and careless if we weigh too much, or if we're underweight, we're
"bulimic" or "anorexic" or otherwise "unhealthy." In the meantime, we're trying to do
everything we can to be healthy and have that reflect in how we look. It's very frustrating to be seen for our
size rather than the amazing people we really are. And what's worse, we tend to be our own
worst critics when we look in the mirror!
But
what if we can't lose weight because we're sick? What if being overweight is just as much
a sign of chronic autoimmune disease as is being underweight? As it turns out, that is actually most
often the case.
The
key is to forget about your weight.
That's right. Put it out of
your mind, and love yourself unconditionally for who you are. In this section, we're going to focus on
the actual reasons why we have weight problems and how to fix them. Improper weight is another symptom of
imbalance in the body, just the same as any other chronic illness. Once the root of the problem is
corrected, the weight symptoms disappear.
The
links below will direct you to various means of getting healthy by correcting
the imbalances that cause weight problems.
You will learn how your personal metabolic
type fits into the equation, and how important your liver is for healthy
weight. You'll also learn about a
hormone called leptin and how it directly affects our ability to lose weight,
as well as a variety of other factors that we need to consider. You'll understand that there is no such
thing as a "one-size-fits-all" answer to diet and exercise
plans. Each segment will focus on
specific reasons why our bodies are out of balance and how our bodies work, but
more importantly, how to correct the source of the problem and ultimately get
to the weight that is right for each of us.
